The Max Myers Distinguished Service Award was established in 1975 to honor CPAs who exhibit strong commitment and foresight, and have built a legacy of dedicated service to MOCPA and the profession. It is reserved for unique and extraordinary situations, and therefore has only been presented 13 times.

Since joining the profession and MOCPA more than 30 years ago, Joe Marchbein has been a constant “go-to” resource for his colleagues, society members and staff, AICPA committees, IRS and DOR officials, media professionals and more. His list of formal volunteerism in the profession is endless with leadership roles on numerous committees and task forces, including serving as a MOCPA board member, St. Louis Chapter president, chair of both the Taxation and Professional Ethics Committees, as well as several national positions. But what stands out most is his unfailing openness to listen thoughtfully and provide guidance to anyone at all times. Immediate Past MOCPA Board Chair John Lindbloom said it best when he described Joe as, in a word, “selfless.”

Joe’s tax knowledge is second to none, but as MOCPA member Joe Eckelkamp says, “even more impressive is his willingness to share that knowledge in a very humble manner. He’s quick to provide insights with a sense of humor at the same time. On the MOCPA Taxation Listserve, we know to pay attention when Joe offers a comment."

The society is proud to honor Joe for his unsurpassed dedication to MOCPA and his ongoing commitment to the betterment of the CPA profession.
