>  Missouri CPAs:  You’re Just About Finished…It’s Tax Day!

(unless, of course, you have clients who are storm victims)

CPAs in Missouri can breathe a sigh of relief after today’s deadline for filing taxes, unless you have clients—individuals and businesses—who were affected by the flooding and have been granted until May 19 to file their taxes.

>  AICPA Applauds Bill Which Enhances Role of CPAs as Taxpayer Advocates

The AICPA applauded the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee’s approval of a bill that would enhance the role of CPAs as advocates for taxpayers by equalizing the IRS disclosure standards between tax preparers and taxpayers.

>  IRS To Issue Guidance on Special 50-Percent Depreciation Allowance

The IRS announced that it will issue guidance for businesses on how the special 50 percent depreciation allowance that was included in the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 can be used to make capital investments this year. Until the guidance is issued, businesses may rely on the regulations previously issued regarding bonus depreciation.

>   Fewer Large Corporations Audited

The tax audit rates of the largest companies are less than half what they were 20 years ago while more small and mid-size businesses are coming under scrutiny, according to an organization that monitors the Internal Revenue Service.
