>   New MSCPA Blog!

The Missouri Society of CPAs is happy to introduce our very first blog!

A blog (short for weblog) is an online journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs are defined by their format: a series of entries posted to a single page in reverse-chronological order.  Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or reflect the purpose of the website that hosts the blog.

As you know, blogs have become a hugely popular and successful means of communicating among professions and groups.  The society fully anticipates that as participation grows on our blog, it will splinter off into a number of blogs that will be specific to disciplines within the profession or facets of our society.

Bookmark it, subscribe to it, and let MSCPA know what you think!

>  IFRS: No Longer If, but When
CFO Magazine quoted SEC Chairman Christopher Cox, in a speech last week, with regard to IFRS.  Cox quashed any doubts that the regulator will one day allow U.S. companies to use international financial reporting standards rather than GAAP. The SEC is working on a road map for transitioning U.S. companies to the global rules, he told members of the European-American Business Council.

>  What's Wrong with the Kids?

CFO Magazine reports that many senior finance executives are complaining loudly about the new generation. They say they must now spend a good deal of time devising strategies to keep younger finance staffers happy and on the job.

>  Recruiting Remains Executives' Top Concern, Survey Shows
Recruiting experienced professionals remains a concern for many companies, a nationwide survey shows. One in five (20 percent) CFOs polled recently said finding skilled staff will be their greatest challenge in the next 12 months, up three points from a similar poll in 2003. Meeting customer needs was the second biggest concern, cited by 16 percent of respondents.

>  Survey Finds Salary Is Top Draw for Job Candidates but Benefits Nearly As Popular
A recent survey suggests that successfully wooing job candidates takes more than salary alone. While 37 percent of CFOs interviewed said offering higher compensation than competitors is the most effective incentive for attracting accounting professionals, nearly as many (33 percent) felt the benefits package had the greatest influence, up from just 2 percent five years ago.
