>  Breaking The Myths About Career Networking

Networking is often a misunderstood concept. The development
of a strong network requires making connections that will sustain
more than a simple introduction. Those connections, and the
support required to maintain them, are the necessary ingredients
to developing a network.

What do I like most about
my job?

The thing I enjoy most about being a CPA in public practice is working with wonderful people.  I started my career at BKD as an auditor. Much of our training in this profession is learned "on the job" and I was privileged to work with some truly excellent mentors and teachers.  As my career has advanced I've had the opportunity to work alongside and train many bright younger auditors.

As a senior manager at BKD,
I also enjoy developing and maintaining client relationships.  This is also very rewarding, because when my clients call
me with questions or problems it gives me the opportunity to apply my technical skills to develop
 "real world" solutions,  help
them overcome the challenges they face and bring value to
their businesses.

Relationships with the clients and other professionals that I work with every day are a major reason that
I love my job.

What is the best thing about
the CPA license?

I think the best thing about
the CPA license is that it is so difficult to get.  The requirements are stringent and are pretty effectively enforced by the
Missouri Society and AICPA.
The business community can therefore be assured that
someone who displays the
CPA credential has legitimately navigated a meaningful course of study into the financial aspects of business, has passed a rigorous exam to prove they've mastered it and has some experience and perspective with which to apply that body of knowledge.  As a result, the license represents a great deal more than a few extra letters on someone's business card; it tells you that the CPA is
a person who is intelligent, who works hard, and who has a body of business and financial knowledge that sets her or him apart from
a non-CPA.

Technology Tip of the Week

Provided by the MSCPA Information Technology Committee

In Excel, Adding Drop Shadows

One helpful drawing tool you can use to format your drawings is known as the Shadow Style tool. Using this tool you can add a drop shadow behind an object. Adding drop shadows can help add more depth to your graphics, making them look like they are raised off the surface of the Excel worksheet.
