> IRS Releases Discussion Draft of Redesigned Form 990 for Tax-Exempt Organizations

The IRS released for comment and discussion a draft Form 990, the annual return required to be filed by tax-exempt organizations to report information about their operations. The IRS hopes to have the form ready for use for the 2008 filing year (returns filed in 2009).

> Missouri Revenue Department Completes Adoption Tax Credit Allocation

The Missouri Department of Revenue announced today that 1,273 claims were made for the Adoption Tax Credit in Fiscal Year 07.  In comparison, the department received 1,976 total adoption credit claims in FY 06.

> IRS Plans to Revive Its Random-Audit Program

Beginning this fall, the IRS plans to revive a once-controversial practice of randomly targeting thousands of taxpayers for audits, even when the agency has no reason to suspect them of wrongdoing.

In Excel, Creating a Drawing Object

Excel allows you to create drawing objects you can use in your worksheets. These objects (such as an oval, rectangle, line, or AutoShape) are positioned on what is termed the "drawing layer," which is separate and distinct from the values or formulas in the cells of your worksheet. You generally create such objects by using the tools on the Drawing toolbar. (Display the Drawing toolbar by clicking on the Drawing tool on the Standard toolbar.)
