It's Time To Renew Your MSCPA Membership!

It's been a jam-packed year for CPAs in Missouri...and the coming year is not anticipated to slow down a bit!

MSCPA is hard at work aggressively promoting the profession to future generations, with the hope of ensuring a labor force that will be able to lead the profession with the large number of job vacancies coming as baby boomers retire in droves.  MSCPA's student initiative, LEAP, is nationally recognized as one of the best and most influential student recruitment initiatives in the country.

In addition, MSCPA is working hard to help the profession with interstate practice mobility--an issue that increasingly causes problems for our more mobile business environment.  Differing state laws prohibit easy practice across state lines.  MSCPA is working to introduce legislation to the Missouri legislature that will correct this problem.

Access to the most comprehensive CPE in the state, profession-specific publications, career services, and savings and discounts are just a few great reasons why 8,500 CPAs are committed members of the Missouri Society of CPAs.

Your MSCPA membership renewals will be mailed later this month, which reflects the 2007-08 dues schedule, which was approved by the MSCPA Board of Directors.  You may view the new schedule athttp://www.mocpa.org/content/files/pdfs/0708dues.pdf

Renew your membership for a year that promises even more positive change for Missouri CPAs!

A month ago                  30%

Six months ago             23%

CFO Survey Finds Integrity Most Desired Leadership Quality

The mark of a good leader may lie in his or her ability to be honest and upstanding, a new survey suggests.  Nearly one-third (31 percent) of chief financial officers (CFOs) polled said the most important quality for a business leader to possess is integrity.  Experience and communication skills followed, each receiving 27 percent of the response.

Developing a Strategic Vision for Your Career Plan

How many times will you change careers in your lifetime? If you're like most people, you'll change careers at least several times over the course of your life. How successful you'll be in making transitions among careers can at least be partially attributed to the amount of career planning and preparation you've done.

Road Map For Aspiring CFOs

Successful CFOs are also good politicians, said Al Castino, CFO of Autodesk, Inc., a desktop design software company. It isn't enough to be a Financial whiz, Castino told Stanford students and faculty on May 3 at the Graduate School of Business's annual Arjay Miller lecture, which brings a CFO to campus. Adept CFOs are able to convince other people that their ideas are the right ones. Read more here.

Business Cards Are Going Upscale

With wired executives storing contact information on BlackBerries and other PDAs, old-school business cards are routinely hitting the trash as soon as they're uploaded. To make their calling cards more of a statement, some professionals are commissioning ones that come as big as a license plate or are made out of everything from wood to corrugated steel. Beyond the requisite name and number, some "story cards" are printed with lengthy narratives to draw in new acquaintances.

Technology Tip of the Week

Provided by the MSCPA Information Technology Committee

In Excel, Provide Users With An Easy-To-Use Toolbar For Their Excel Spreadsheets

You can make it easier for new users to work with their spreadsheets by attaching a small toolbar that includes only the basic tools they need to get the job done.
