>  AICPA Publishes  New Resources on Generally Accepted Privacy Principles

In association with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the AICPA is releasing a new Generally Accepted Privacy Principles (GAPP) resource--one targeted to CPAs in industry, one for public practice.

>  FASB Won't Postpone Rule on Uncertain Positions

Accounting rule makers last week decided unanimously against a postponement of new rules coming into force this year that require companies to take a new, more stringent approach to reporting uncertain tax positions on their financial statements.

>  FASB Seeks Constituent Views on Valuation Guidance

>  Number of Management and Executive Positions Rising

According to AccountingWeb, more management and executive positions are expected across the country and their sources predict a rise of 13.6 percent within this decade. Based on this information, the creation of more than 5 million of these high-level, new jobs is expected by 2010. These projections for potential career advancement have many professionals wondering how they can land one of these positions.

>  Are Your Workers Engaged?

CFO Magazine reports that U.S. workers are more productive than ever. What they aren't is inspired.  According to Sibson Consulting's 2006 Rewards of Work Study, only 52 percent of employees are fully "engaged," defined as knowing what to do and wanting to do it. One-third of them are actually disengaged.

>  Study: Most Audit Committees Lack Accountant

SmartPros reports that in 2005 the number of accountants sitting on audit committees doubled compared to four years prior, but that six out of 10 companies still did not have at least one accountant on their committee.

>  Missouri Gains Jobs in December 2006

Continuing a positive trend Missouri created 3,800 non-farm jobs in December 2006 and the state's unemployment rate decreased to 4.6 percent, down from 4.8 percent the same time in 2005.  Missouri has created 53,500 new jobs since January 2005 and 22,400 jobs from December 2005 to December 2006.

In Excel, Start A New Line Of Text In The Same Cell

When you type text in a cell, use the shortcut Alt+Enter to break text onto the next line. This is equivalent to the "soft return" shortcut Shift+Enter in Microsoft Word that breaks text onto a new line without the creation of a new paragraph.
