>  2008 Annual MSCPA Awards
Do you know someone who has made a unique contribution to the accounting profession? Nominate that person for the 2008 Annual MSCPA Awards!

 

Each year, the MSCPA recognizes CPAs who have served their profession and/or community above and beyond their responsibility. Nominations are accepted in five categories:

 

  • Outstanding CPA in Business & Industry
  • Outstanding Educator Award
  • Outstanding CPA in Government
  • Innovative User of Technology
  • Public Service Award

>  Information Security Management Still Number One Issue

The AICPA released the results of its 19th annual Top Technology Initiatives survey last week.  Information security management will be the most important initiative affecting IT strategy, investment and implementation in business organizations over the next 12-18 months.

>  Study Finds 404 Cost for Smaller Companies
What is the cost for a smaller public company to comply with Sarbox 404?  A report says that for non-accelerated filers, the total average first-year cost for management assessment and additional audit fees -- using the latest guidance issued by the SEC and PCAOB -- is $78,474. >  FASB Proposes Delay of Interpretation 48 for Nonpublic Enterprises
FASB has issued for exposure proposed FASB Staff Position (FSP) FIN 48-b, Effective Date of FASB Interpretation No. 48 for Nonpublic Enterprises. The FSP proposes to defer the effective date of Interpretation 48 for nonpublic entities to fiscal years beginning after December 15, 2007. Constituents have until January 18, 2008, to submit written comments on the proposed FSP.

>  Ethics Risk Landscape Just as Treacherous as Before Enron
Six years after high-profile corporate scandals rocked American business, there has been little if any meaningful reduction in the enterprise-wide risk of unethical behavior at U.S. companies, according to the Ethics Resource Center's 2007 National Business Ethics Survey.

>  Executives: Baby Boomer Retirements Most Significant Workforce Trend in Next 10 Years
There are likely to be a number of issues shaping the future of the workforce, but for today’s companies, one stands out above the rest: Nearly one out of every two senior executives (47 percent) surveyed said baby boomer retirements will have the greatest impact on the workforce over the next decade.
