> MOSBA Executive Director Ken Bishop Resigns

Ken Bishop, who has served for eight years as executive director of the Missouri State Board of Accountancy, announced his resignation late on Friday.  Ken has accepted a position as president of Professional Credentialing Services and director of CPA Examination Operations for the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) in Nashville, Tennessee.  Ken's last day with the state board will be January 2, 2007.

Ken served Missouri CPAs over the past eight years very well.  He was instrumental in the passing of the Missouri Accountancy Act, implemented a new customer service culture at the state board, and significantly increased cooperation between the state board and MSCPA--a critical relationship that was applauded and admired throughout the entire nation.

Public Practice CPAs Are Needed For the LEAP Job Shadowing Program

National Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a nationwide initiative dedicated to giving students a unique opportunity to "shadow" a workplace mentor as he or she goes through a normal day on the job, getting an up-close look at how the skills learned in school translate into real life work experiences. On February 2, 2007, the Missouri Society of CPAs will mobilize member firms and businesses to open their doors to students. Nationwide, more than one million students and 100,000 businesses participate.

> Missouri's Unemployment Rate Was 5.4 Percent in October

Payroll employment in Missouri decreased in October, and unemployment increased, on a seasonally adjusted basis--reflecting temporary layoffs in the automobile industry and a decrease in manufacturing employment. However, over the past year the state has added 14,300 jobs and 38,700 new jobs have been created since January 2005.
