LEAP For CPAs

LEAP (Lead and Enhance the Accounting Profession) is a unique and rewarding opportunity for you to impact the future of CPAs…and future CPAs.

There are many avenues for your participation in the LEAP Initiative: presentations in the classrooms, at Beta Alpha Psi meetings and career fairs, job shadowing and LEAP Scholarships.

LEAP was created by the Missouri Society of CPAs in 2001 to raise awareness, build understanding, and change perceptions of the CPA profession.

According to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), accounting enrollments are up almost 19% compared to their 2003-04 survey.  Total graduates in 2006-07 in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs are also up 19% over the three-year period since the 2003-04 survey. 

The increase in enrollment is so dramatic that the pipeline for enrollment in college accounting classes is full!  Because the trend has so drastically turned around, the LEAP Initiative has turned its focus on the college accounting students.  While you may continue to visit the high schools as called on, you are encouraged to talk to college-level accounting students, to urge them to consider working toward earning the title of CPA.
